Devin B. Terhune, PhD

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I teach undergraduate and postgraduate statistics. I am also an Associate Investigator at the ARC Centre for Excellence in Cognition and Its Disorders at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Prior to coming to Goldsmiths in 2015, I was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford (2010-2015), where I worked with Prof. Roi Cohen Kadosh. Before that, I completed my PhD in 2010 with Prof. Etzel Cardeña in the Department of Psychology at Lund University in Lund, Sweden.

My research applies a range of methods to understand the characteristics and neurocognitive bases of time perception and suggestion and suggestibility. I also have strong interests in depersonalization/derealization, mind wandering, metacognition, and different facets of awareness. A considerable amount of my research is concerned with intra-individual variability and heterogeneity in these phenomena. Further information about my work can be found here and most of my papers can be found here. Alongside my research, I am also an Associate Editor for Consciousness and Cognition.

Bianca Ivanof, PhD student

I study the sense of agency under the supervision of James Moore and Devin Terhune. The sense of agency refers to the feeling of being in the driving seat when it comes to our actions. As part of my PhD, I am investigating the relationship between the sense of agency and learning using behavioural and neuroscience methods. I also have broader interests in curiosity, free will, decision making, bayesian reasoning, philosophy of science, and advanced statistics. In the past, I conducted research in curiosity, memory and learning with Giulia Galli at Kingston University. am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I teach undergraduate and postgraduate statistics.

Naya Polychroni, PhD student

My PhD research, with Devin Terhune and Maria Herrojo-Ruiz, concerns the neurophysiological bases of meta-awareness during mind wandering. I previously studied Mathematics (BSc) followed by an MSc in Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience at Goldsmiths. Aside from my interests in consciousness and metacognition, I am also interested in time perception and the sense of agency.

Steliana Yanakieva, MSc student

I am currently completing the MSc in Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience at Goldsmiths. My research involves the use of non-invasive brain stimulation to modulate time perception. My broader research interests include consciousness and memory and neurogenerative disorders. I am also a Dementia adviser and volunteer with the research team at the Mental Health Foundation.

Ruchi Wieder, BSc student

I am currently completing the BSc in Clinical Psychology at Goldsmiths. My main research interests concern the dissociative disorders and the role suggestibility plays within them. I am currently studying the factors that contribute to dissociative tendencies in the general population. I am also interested in consciousness, memory, metacognition, identity development and confusion, attachment, and emotion.

Helen Vu, BSc student

I am a volunteer research assistant working in the lab.
